Description
up to 0.5mm (accuracy 0.1mm, 15 fps)
Larger than 10cm
Scanned by Camille Locatelli with Artec Eva
3D modelling by Camille Locatelli with Artec Studio 16

Complexity of the structures:  Medium sized objects (10cm-1m), non-reflective soft tissues; e.g. skins (but not good at furs and tiny feathers), and hard tissue structures (bones, teeth (after specific preparations), botanical objects, geological and paleontological materials

User requirements: 3D imaging, virtual morphology and geometric morphometric analysis

Pipeline
Cost(s)
- Preparation time required for set up procedures: a few minutes to warm up the scanner, to set up of turning table, application of talcum powder on reflective materials, fixing objects with sticky material to prevent from movement during turntable rotations, etc. - Scanning procedure depends on object complexity but is relatively fast. - postprocessing procedures involve image registrations within scan, scan registrations to build the full 3D model (in the minute range) - Final fusion (mainly computing time depending on object size and number of scans, 1-3 hours) - postprocessing of 3D model: includes hole filling, noise reduction, surface decimations, smoothing (computing time depending on the size of the data objects) - Final texturing (optional, mainly computing time depending on 2D image resolution and object geometry (up to 1h)
- Scanning procedure may range from half an hour to several hours or days depending on the scanning parameters and the sample size (e.g. higher resolution or bigger size leads to higher time required). - Image analysis can range from half an hour to several hours depending the selected type of analysis and the size of dataset.
