Digitisation of drawers / boxes (RBINS/RMCA)

* 50Mp camera (e.g. Canon 5Ds) * Fixed focal lens with minimal distortion (e.g. Canon 40mm lens) * Cabinet equipped with daylight LED panels (e.G. Ikea cabinet with 4500K LED panels) * Desktop/Laptop/App to control the camera This setup can also be used to digitise large, but still easily manageable specimens (size 25-60cm, weight >10kg). For imaging microscope slides, negatives, etc... a led light panel can be used to place the objects on it and use the same camera setup, but without lighting the top led panels inside the cabinet.

Pipeline
Cost(s)
-Preparation time: Transport boxes from the collection to the Digitisation setup or place the digitisation in the collection. Removal of the glass lid of insect boxes prior to imaging. Depending on the set of drawers that are pictured, the imaging closet is adjusted accordingly so each box is perfectly positioned to the camera. In this way the photographer doesn’t waste time positioning the box and just needs to take the picture. The parameters of the camera (f-stop, shutter speed, ISO) are also preset. -Digitization procedure: Generally one image per box is taken, unless the boxes are divided in sub-containers. -Image analysis: Each day a picture is taken with a calibration chart to correct the images taken. It is possible to add a small calibration chart to the box if there is space left. In case there isn’t space available the picture is autocorrected using the information of the calibration image. -about 75 to 100 insect drawers can be imaged a day
-Digitization procedure: No specific time required. -Image analysis: Batch processing to correct the color info of the images.
